> 3 dayIf you are in the market for a ferrocerium a.k.a. firesteel rod this is the one to get especially if you have a extra $5 Amazon gift certificate lying around like I did. Yes, there are cheaper pieces of ferrocerium for sale however they are all small making it difficult to hold let alone use. Yes there are identically sized ferrocerium rods advertised cheaper than $15 but this item produced consistently large hot sparks with a minimal amount of effort expended. It makes for a nice gift after a father/son project teach your son how to start a fire initially the hard way (bow drill) then graduating to ferrocerium using easily found tinder, a homemade featherstick, dryer lint, the ever difficult to make tinder clothe, then finally birch bark when you visit your local park. Prior to using you must file/scrape away the outer coating then away you go.

> 3 dayVery good value overall. Perfect size. I appreciate the lanyard hole too. To make it easier to hold, I wrapped some 1 gorilla tape around rod several times to make a handle that doubles as tinder material if needed.

Greater than one weekWill it throw sparks? Yes. Can you use it to start a fire? Yes. There is a hole in the top that you can run a cord through for a lanyard. I wrapped some duct tape around the top for some extra grip. I’ll be able to pass this on to my kid and his kid and so on.
