Works great! Used to start fires for a kayak camping trip. With good tinder it works well! Side Note- It’s worthwhile to make a lanyard out of some bright paracord so you don’t loose it

I own probably own 8 fires-steels and some magnesium blocks for the cost this rod does a really great job. Dont get me wrong, I dont think I could light a hard wood with it, like Oak but certainly softer wood prepared or a saw dust like material it should do it with relative ease. I have lit horse hay, cotton balls, paper, dryer lint immediately or 30 seconds or less with a huge shower of sparks. The best advice is have a great striker that you can really put down the sparks, get crazy with it and you will see results. Practice using one, so in case of a real situation you can do it. Remember fire-prep is critical to starting a good fire.

The lanyard hole could be bigger, but not gonna take away on that.

Much better than using the smaller and shorter 3/8 ferro rods that you can pick up from Wal-Mart or other outdoor stores. Plenty of purchase to hold the rod securely and length to get massive sparks.

I recently got this after I got some smaller ones, a pair on key rings for the same price, the small ones were tough to hold, and less striking potential, but more portable. This is easy to hold, easy to use and offers a lot more material for the price. The only things to keep in mind when buying this is that it is too heavy for most to comfortably wear around the neck, and while it has a hole for a lanyard, it does not come with one, this could easily be improvised however with a bit of paracord.

Nothing bad to say about it. You may want a baylite striker with it as well though. My mora isnt perfectly flat so almost no sparks with it. My ontario AF survival knife does better but it may be the parkerized finish doesnt spark as well or the mod version may not be perfectly flat. Works get with the baylite striker though.
