> 3 dayThese fire rods are best ive for those that never used them before,high carbon steel knives are what is needed to strike all of these not stainless or aluminum,to keep your knife sharp use the Flat back side of your knife,this will save your blade.If you want more versatility from them glue a copper cap on one end so you can strike against on a piece of flint,also make sure you scrape the protective black coating from the rod before use they work better this way,happy camping.
