Wow! Never did I expect this rod to work as well as it does! A must have item for anybody serious about starting a fire in the backwoods. Just scrape off a small spot of the protective coating and get your tinder ready. Will be getting more of these for gifts for family and friends.

The Ferrocerium rod is a very good value, it throws a plentiful amount of hot sparks. I am happy with the performance. I wish it was a tad bit softer but if you use a good striker it will perform well. The hole makes is it very easy to attach cordage and allows you to use much more of the rod. Very good product and I will re-order it again.

Gobs of sparks! Wears quickly but works very well. Its size really helps to hold during use.

Mine arrived today, was only 4 inches long instead of 6 like the description says. I will keep it, not worth the trouble of returning.

    Greater than one week

this is a big ferro rod - it works perfectly, allows for long striking strokes with lots of heat and starting a fire quickly. I bought 3 of these and hoped for the best. not disappointing. I put one in my camping gear, one in my BOB and one in my house. I have tested them numerous times and had never had a long ferro rod like this but I do love these things. a couple of long strikes and you have enough popping hot sparks to get things going. The first time I tested one of these it took me 3 strokes to start a fire and the first 2 where wearing off the coating.

The size makes it easier to use than smaller rods when striking it with a knife or saw. Its also harder lose. I have purchased two, they will probably last me the rest of my natural life.

The rod worked but took some time to find something that would work to get the sparks flying. It came with just the rod, and no striker.

1/2"× 5"" Pack of 2

  • Can be used for the kitchen as well as survival.
  • Not only for emergency bug-out bags, but also for gifts.

Size Comparison

  • Large size( 1/2"" thick) means plenty for your hands to hang onto. If you have large hands, we recommend the large size.
  • The 3/8"" × 4"" is big enough for easier strikes and small enough to carry.

How to use

  1. Scrape away the coating to expose shiny metal before first use.
  2. Hold the ferro rod close to the tinder at about a 45-degree angle. Place the scraper near the top of the rod.
  3. Pull the rod back (away from the tinder) with a slow and steady motion.
