This thing is a little giant. Beats all the other fancy rods. Lets face it, you need to be able to generate decent sparks to get a fire going and this rod does just that. No need for whistles and chords. Feels solid and heavy in the hand and will last a lifetime. I use my CDS survival knifes spine to strike this bad boy. Lights cotton balls in one strike. 6.05 x 0.515 are the dimensions.

The rod comes coated in a black material. It takes a bit of preparation to scrape off that material on enough of the rod to avoid hitting it while striking a spark. Once the rod is cleared off down to the grey/silver material that actually sparks the rod works great. It took a few strikes before I realized there was a coating on the rod. I was able to get some punked/dry rotted heart wood of a douglas fir dried out enough to use for tinder. Even still slightly moist the rod sparked sufficiently to let me blow up a flame after a minute or two and some careful tinder feeding.

I gave three star on ease of use only because of newbies like me..i did not know the coating must be off to have best use.. A demo strip with pics would be helpful for out of the box use

Pretty impressed the amount of sparks this ferro rod throws. Theres a little weight to it so keep that in mind if you are an ultra-light backpacker.

These ferro rods are probably the best deal youll find in Amazon. These are thick high quality ferro rods. Almost always guarantee a spark and extremely easy to use. After buying my first rod for my bug out bag Ive already decided to buy more for my camping pack and truck. These will probably last for more fires than I can probably ever start.
