Hatch Baby Grow Smart Changing Pad and Scale

This scale is nice to have to track a babys weight. Honestly, after about 2 weeks youre probably going to forget/not care anymore about regularly tracking weight. The app is pretty good. You have to randomly zero out the scale about half the time, but not the other half which is annoying. You can calculate how much a baby eats by weighing before and after a feeding, but again, half the time the app glitches and erases the initial weight. The changing pad itself is cold and slick. My baby spends the whole diaper change in a moro position with arms and legs outstretched, rocking back and forth and sliding around way more than on any other type of surface. The contours arent very high so without the little belt to hold him down (which falls off the scale way too easily), he seems very at risk of rolling himself off. Hes only 3w old so when hes actually able to move around even more, I cant imagine how easily he could roll himself off. But that kinda slick material is easy to clean, so theres your trade-off.

Okay, so I LOVED this scale in the beginning. My son need to gain weight his first 6 weeks and being able to weigh him frequently put me at ease. I also found it to be super accurate. I loved that it’s a changing pad too, an amazing dual concept which was why I purchased it. The reason for 3 stars is that I think scale is great for about 9 months, or up until your baby can start really moving around. I went to weigh my son recently (he’s just over a year old now) and the app told me there was a “critical issue” and I needed to contact Hatch. The customer service rep told me that the instrument in the scale was damaged beyond repair and offered a 20% discount to buy a new one because my 1 year warranty had expired about 6 weeks prior. The rep went on to explain how delicate the scale instrument was and when too much pressure is applied it can break the weighing mechanism. She said that if someone accidentally puts their hand on it while bending down to pick something up, the pressure can break the weighing mechanism. What was even more frustrating is that the customer service rep was able to give me a date range of when the scale was damaged — which actually was during the time frame where it was under warranty. But they still wouldn’t honer it — rather they upped the discount offer to 50% for a new one. Here is the thing, the scale/changing pad had not moved at all during this supposed trauma period. The only possible thing that could have damaged the scale is my son himself. He hates diapers changes and constantly try’s to flip on his belly and kicks around. I feel like calling this a scale and changing pad is unfair if the weight and pressure of a squirming toddler can break the scale component. After reading some other reviews, it seems like I’m not the only one who has experienced this. I really wish the delicate nature of the weighing component was better communicated to the end consumer by Hatch.

I wasnt sure having a changing pad with fancy features and connectivity would be worth it until my son arrived - he was super small and gained weight slowly, so weve had to keep on eye on his growth. Having a scale at home has been a lifesaver in ensuring that he is gaining weight day over day. I dont use it much to track the amount he is feeding (trying to be a chill mom, ha!) but just the daily check in is really great at offering peace of mind and knowing we are on the right track. I also love the user interface of the feeding tracking - the timer is super user friendly and was helpful in knowing when I last fed and the duration. I stopped using the diaper tracking after a few weeks as he got regular, but I also loved that feature in the early days. Lastly - though not as crucial as the key features - is that its sleek and looks great in my nursery. Thoughtful product design is something Im (admittedly) looking for in my baby gear.

The Hatch Baby Grow is must have tool for all newborns and parents alike. The ease of use, stylish design, and most importantly, the valuable information and tracking data this product gives you is crucial to making sure your baby is healthy and growing. Our son, Micah, was born one month early at 5lbs 3oz. One of our main goals was to get as much weight on him as possible in the coming months. Luckily, he took to breastfeeding but we still werent sure how much food he was getting per feeding. The Hatch Baby allowed us to measure his weight before a feeding then after to compare his intake. The information we were receiving put us at ease and helped to plan our future feedings. Micah is now 13lbs thanks to the Grow unit. All the readouts and tracking is controlled by The Hatch Baby app. The app is easy to use and totally customizable. There is an easy dashboard that keeps track of all your data for a quick at-a-glance view. This is next level baby care! The Grow also tracks your feeding times, sleep patterns, diapers schedule, and pumping schedule. All this information is great to have and share with your pediatrician or specialist. It has helped us to solve some sleep issues and keep us track with feeding times/frequencies. Again, we cant say enough positive things about this product. Gave this to my niece for her baby shower. She was amazed at all the features that this product offers right down to keeping track of how many diapers you have. More features to the app than our listed on the product box. My niece is thrilled with this gift.

Adore this product for my twins. It’s been within a few ounces of my pediatricians scales every time and is very easy to use. My husband set it down too hard on the changing table after using it for a few months and something was damaged. Contacted customer service and I had a brand new one sent to me within 48 hours. Excellent product and excellent customer service. I originally purchased this scale as a suggestion from a lactation consultant because I had NICU preemies, but recommend for any mom (especially breastfeeding) to ensure your baby is gaining weight appropriately! For twin (or more) moms this product is great and allows you to add multiple children! It’s very easy to toggle between the kids and makes it easy to track each ones growth.

Extremely displeased with this product and returning. The app requires an upgrade to even connect to the scale/pad, but refuses to udate. Ive tried everything to get it to connect and it continues to fail. I contacted the support desk via email and hear nothing waited a week and contacted again and nothing. Then I called their support number and got a message that they are no longer taking live calls. Without the app the scale feature is nonexistent so I have a 150 dollar piece of plastic with straps.

Before we bought the Grow, we bought a different home scale and weighed our son every week and it took up quite a bit of space in our son’s bathroom. I wish we had known about the Grow earlier because we would’ve saved so much space. We also used to track our son’s percentile manually on the WHO chart and plot his points along the way. With the Grow, we no longer have to manually chart his percentile or write his weight down. It is so much easier to have everything track all at once! I also love that I don’t have to use a changing pad cover anymore, I can just wipe it down and its good to go. The material is also nice because it isn’t too cold on my son’s bare skin. I will definitely be recommending this to all my mommy or soon to be mommy friends! It has definitely made it so much easier keeping track of our son’s weight! Totally worth the price and piece of mind!

Worst scale and a total rip-off! The scale broke after a year and a half and since the warranty is only a year they wouldn’t do anything for me except give me 20% off. The “loading cells” are so delicate , evidently moving it to clean can break them. Why advertise it as a changing station when it Is obviously going to take some kind of movement and “downward pressure”. It claimes to have a weight limit of 44 pds. Well I guess don’t put a heavy baby on it or let the baby kick. According to their email to me “Grow is damaged when more than 44lbs of pressure has been applied to the scale which breaks the weighing mechanism.” It claims to be accurate to .25 oz but I rarely got repeatable result and often had to take multiple measurements to even get an idea . It is known that this scale is one of the most inaccurate. This company exploits new parents who want to measure newborn feedings. I completely regret this purchase. If I had had more time and energy to do more research after my baby was born, I would have seen that they are not only one of the most innacurate but have the worst warranty for scales. I am assuming they want parents to repeatedly buy this after it breaks after warranty expires , or expect them to throw it away after a year if they have only one child . There are many scales that are much better. This thing for me now is nothing more than a overpriced changing pad. My advice is to either get the Health-o-meter grow with me which has a 10 YEAR WARRANTY or Hopkins Featherweight Baby Scale which has a 3 year warranty and graduations of .16 oz and is only 40 dollars more than the stupid Hatch grow. Or just take the time to do more research. I’ve heard you can rent professional grade scales and even for around 300 you can buy a professional grade scale. The Hatch grow is not durable and won’t last through multiple children . It didn’t even last through one child for me. No Hatch. I’m not going to use your 20% off to buy your product again. I’m not stupid enough to spend another 100 dollars to replace it when it is obviously just going to break again.

The smell right out of the package is terrible. It’s like I’m newly pregnant again and ready to vomit. I hope this goes away overnight. If not I may have to take it to the basement or garage to air out. It’s a really bad smell and I have a feeling it will linger for some time. Additional Review Later: The smell went away a couple of days later and we love this product and highly recommend it. If you are looking for a scale to avoid weight check appointments this scale is not the one... it isnt as accurate as pediatrician/lactation consultant scales and you will still have to go in for a weight check. However, it is good to have for peace of mind. I wouldnt buy this scale before baby is born (unless you are expecting a premature baby). I would buy it after to see if we wanted it then.
