Logitech G MX518 Gaming Mouse

whatever
> 24 hourFinish is different (obviously), strain relief is different, underside around the sensor is different, buttons are shaped differently and no longer have the red silkscreen, top rear-most button has a different logo entirely. The G logo inlay at the top rear isnt metal (which is probably better since the printing on it would eventually wear off on the old ones). Cable is thinner. Matte side finish may be a bit different- hard to tell. Most of these items are superficial and doesnt really detract, but again, its not the mx518, I was hoping for. Its a Rev 2...

> 24 hourI previously routed the mouse to the back of the computer through a cable routing grommet hole in my desk. However, after just a week or so, I found the cable shielding had some obvious wear where it rubbed on that plastic grommet. Now Im wrapping it up and running through the USB pas through on the keyboard. But the typical rubber/plastic shielding just tends to offer more resistance than a braided cable. If nothing else, making a replaceable or removable usb cable would be well received. As many others, I once owned a mx510 in red, back in the day. This is a familiar friend, and with the new sensor and feet design, I hope it lasts as long as the original did.

> 24 hourThe scroll wheels feels off coming from a g400s, the g400s was more stable and easy to track as I used it over the years, this one feels slightly slippery needs getting used to. And my palms keep sweating, ive never sweated so fast on my g400s, Actually i dont even remember sweating on my g400s ever. But for some reason my hand sweats so easily on this mx518 within minutes. I just wish they would make a g400s legendary instead, sure mx518 was good and popular, but the true real deal was the g400s as the best improvement of the mx518 back in the day. Ive used the g400s for over 8 years, bought one every 4 years, since 2012, but too bad, recently my g400s died so i was forced to buy a new one. Tried the g502 and another brand mouse they were terrible, I dont think im going to get used to sweating either.. Not sure what to do about this. I guess i can use it only on winters..

> 24 hourDisclaimer: I never used the original MX518 made around a decade ago. So far, I’ve got to say that I really love this mouse. You may be asking, why did I choose this retro styled mouse over some of the other mice? 1. In my opinion, It’s a nice break from the sharp, sleek, and flashy geometric designs from modern gaming mice and other gaming equipment. The MX518 does what it needs to do without over complicating itself. 2. The old school soft and rounded aesthetic of the MX518 feels very comfortable in palm, fingertip, and claw gripping styles. 3. The cord isn’t braided. Sure, this can be looked as a negative in durability, but it’s nice to not deal with fraying and cord friction that can mess with mouse movement. 4. The unbraided cord is also very flexible and extremely light to the point where it feels borderline nonexistent. It doesn’t feel cheap despite this. 5. It’s slightly lighter than the Razor Deathadder and has excellent weight balance. 6. The MX518 has the same (HERO) sensor as Logitech’s $100+ flagship mice. 7. The mouse has programmable buttons for assigning macros, keybinds, on the fly DPI changing, and the ability to store and switch between multiple mouse profiles. The mouse profiles can be assigned to games for automatic, immediate swapping when the games are launched. With the MX518 praise out of the way, there are some things to consider before buying the mouse. 1. The MX518 was designed for right handed use only. 2. The mouse is fairly big, some users with smaller hands may find it uncomfortable. 3. If you have long fingers and like to palm grip, you may hate the left and right click buttons. They don’t fully extend over the edge of the mouse and your fingertips may hit the plastic form that wraps around it. 4. The features on this retro styled mouse may appear too basic without the flashy lighting, infinite scrolling, weight changing, grip swapping, and other features found in modern mice design. 5. The buttons below and above the mouse wheel may be tricky to reach depending on your grip style and finger length. The mouse wheel itself has a somewhat narrow and rubbery feel that may feel weird to some users. TLDR: I personally think the MX518 is one of the best mice I have used in comfort and performance, but the older design style and lack of modern gimmicks may not be everyone.

> 24 hourI still have an older yet pretty decent condition MX518 and this one is almost identical in feel. The buttons, scroll wheel, etc. are all very similar. The pads on the bottom are much better than the original. I hope Logitech releases some more updated classics, especially the G500s. If the quality is as good as the MX518 redux, itll pretty much be a guaranteed purchase.

> 24 hourI owned several of the original MX 518 gaming mice, the grey version that had simulated dents in it and the red version. This was by far the best gaming mouse Ive ever used and this version of it brings back memories. Now its new and improved with the HERO sensor and i love it!!

> 24 hourI have used the original mx518 since it was first released.. up until 2018 when for some reason I convinced myself I needed a new gaming mouse. I ended up buying a Corsair Glaive which looked cool and had all the gamer features including RGB. well less than 2 years later that mouse started to have a double click issue... and I also noticed the scroll wheel was loosing its accuracy at slow scrolling speeds. A few months after that one the the thumb buttons flat out broke. I dug through the closet and pulled out my trusty ol mx518 which still worked flawlessly and began to use it as a backup. after the first day back with the mx518 I started to ask myself why I ever tried to replace it in the first place. it was more comfortable and the buttons felt better. I then discovered Logitech had re-released the mx518 with newer tech and I was immediately on board. 2 days later it arrived and it was exactly what I expected! spot on original shape and feel with the matte plastic being slightly more grippy then the original. The buttons feel a tad more crisp (which may have to do with my original being so old) and the hero sensor needs no introduction. This mouse is a sleeper.. a wolf in sheeps clothes and I love it.

> 24 hourIts overall pretty nice. Although for how much this thing costs it feels pretty flimsy. The buttons also just stick anything onto it and can get dirty easily, nothing like any mouse Ive ever used. It feels a bit awkward for my ring finger like it has nowhere to go but I ended up clawing the thing the whole time anyways. I always use the middle mouse button to open and close links/tabs and the button started to give away and make a crunched plastic sound but it did go away somehow which was cool... If this product costs maybe half what it is then Id definitely recommend and give 5 stars but it does have some flaws. It performs nicely though its just the flaws really stick to my mind.

> 24 hourYou have probably already read how great of a gaming mouse this is. Like others, I used it in the 2000s as my main gaming mouse. Its really a nice mouse. But, these days I work from home and keep having my mice loose tracking on me. I write code for a living, and I dont need much from a mouse. But, I need it to track correctly. Unfortunately, the standard logitech wireless ones I keep buying, keep loosing its tracking. Thing is, I still have my old 518 from 2007 ish. Guess what? It still works. No tracking issues and I put that thing to work on a nightly basis for years. But, the middle mouse doesnt scroll so I needed a new one. So to avoid having to buy another mouse too soon, I decided to get my old standard and pickup the 518. The new design works just fine, but be sure you are right handed. Does anyone use a mouse with their left hand? Not sure, but this mouse was designed to be used with your right hand. Its got the perfect indent for your thumb which is one of the great features. Its a perfect fit. It doesnt have the nice rubber anymore, but thats not a big deal. Its cheaper now so thats fine. Sensitivity buttons above and below the middle mouse button is nice as well. Just tap to change sensitivity as you need. Remember, this thing was made for performance. This is a wired mouse. There is no wireless functionality, so you have to plug it in. This could be good/bad depending on what you need it for. But, just keep in mind, you have to plug the usb into a port. It took a few mins for it to work, surprisingly, but after a few mins it worked fine. We will see if they still use quality parts in this mouse and it lasts a long time. But, Im feeling good about it so far. Sometimes if you work all day with a mouse, just buy a gaming mouse for quality. The standard cheap ones dont last.
