Logitech G MX518 Gaming Mouse

> 3 dayThe original MX518 introduced this shape, which I consider the perfect mouse size and shape, at least for my (on the large side) hands. It was then reused in the G5, G500 and G500s, some of the best mice of all time. I had been reluctantly using a G502 Proteus Core for the last couple of years, because I couldnt find anything else to replace my G500 with when it died. I was never really happy with the G502 though, so when I heard they were bringing back the MX518, but with a modern sensor, I jumped on it. It was a day one order for me. Now that I have it I am very happy with it. I love the feel of the shape in my hand, and its subtle looks without all the crazy disco lighting they put on all products these days. Not everything is perfect though, which is why it doesnt get 5 stars. 1.) It is VERY light. If you like a light mouse (that is the gaming trend today) then I suppose that is great. I dont. Ive always liked heavy peripherals. The G5 and G500 allowed you to add weights with a cool weight cartridge on the bottom. This mouse lacks that feature. IN the end I wound up ordering 3 ounces (85g) of weighted tungsten, taking off the cover, and sticking it inside the mouse to almost double the weight. Its much more to my liking now. It would have been better if it had a cartridge like the G5 and G500 though. (and not like the one in the G502, it is much worse, and lighter) 2.) The scroll wheel is a definite downgrade compared to the G502. This is the only thing I miss from the G502. It feels cheap and less precise compared to the one on the G502. Give this mouse a weight cartridge like the G5/G500 and a better scroll wheel, and it might just be the perfect mouse. Or they could - you know - just bring back the G500 with modern optics as well.

> 3 dayLove the classic feeling of the mouse, it brings back memories of how confortable it was, sensor and software wise is up-to date, but is lacking some details that you have come to expect from current mice like braided cable an a little more weight to it (coming from a G500) but it is to be expected it is just a matter of getting use to it . Overall loving the mouse and hopping that it will last as much as my original MX510 (still working just fine after so many years)

> 3 dayOther reviews are accurate. This isnt the same as the old mx mouses. It just doesnt feel solid like before. Minor squeaks, and a little stick in the scroll..

> 3 dayI have owned just about every mouse over the years for gaming. (Last used was the Razer Deathadder). I have also owned the original version of this mouse many years ago and it lasted me about 6 years. I can say with absolute certainty that this is the best mouse on the market at the moment. It is built just like the original, and feels exactly the same as I remember just with upgraded internals. What makes this mouse the best? The simplistic design with no frills.. Works as intended every time and is comfortable for extended use. Cant ask for more... Thank You Logitech for bringing back the best!

Greater than one weekWhen I saw that some spin-off Logitech company, Logitech G, was remaking the MX518 mouse I was ecstatic. The MX518 was the best mouse Id ever used and since mine broke after ~7 years of use I had been looking to replace it. It may look and feel like the Logitech MX518 but it is not. My Logitech G MX518 is *already failing after only 3 months*! It has begun interpreting single clicks as double clicks. The button switch is failing. I do not recommend buying this mouse if you think you are getting a Logitech MX518. This mouse isnt it despite the name. *edit*: The Logitech RMA process is now terrible. Even after I took a video of myself using the mouse showing the defect while holding a piece of paper the tech support refused to honor the warranty. They tried to claim that my firmware version wasnt up to date (on my mouse?!) and then hung up on me *2* times while I was waiting on hold. The only way to get them to approve the RMA was to get angry and yell at them at which point suddenly the firmware version didnt matter (it never did, its a bad switch). DONT BUY LOGITECH.

> 3 dayThis mouse has a very good build quality, its around 100g which is great for me, but might seem heavy to others. The Hero sensor is by far the most precise ive ever had. No acceleration, no angle snapping perfect for gaming. Your either going to love the shape of this mouse and the ergonomics, or your going to hate it, no middle ground really. Its a great palm/fingertip/hybrid grip mouse, but most people are probably going to want to palm grip this mouse. Glides great across surfaces. One down side may be the right side finger rest is kinda in a bad spot, but i fingertip grip this mouse so its not that much of an issue. Hope this helps someone!

> 3 dayThis mouse has the same finely sculpted ergonomics as the old MX518, but with a much better sensor. The body is a bit lighter, which isnt particularly good if youre used to filling up all the weight cartridges on the tunable mice, which is a feature this mouse does not have. The shell is identical to the MX518, but with different materials and a different finish. The sides are nice textured plastic. The top is an extremely high-gloss surface that is very eye-catching, but this is where my one gripe comes in. Who the heck designed this finish? The glossy, lightly adherent finish attracts skin oils like nothing else. I have literally watched the clickers on this mouse gum up in minutes, right before my very eyes. The only way to avoid instantly fouling the top surface of this thing with skin oils would be to literally scrub your fingertips with a pumice stone every morning. Did they even test this thing, and if they did, were they wearing white cotton museum keeper gloves the entire time? Disappointing.

> 3 dayNot like the original but still a good mouse. Its lighter and doesnt come with the grip on the inside of the mouse. Also feels a bit smaller, but not by much. As other reviewers have mentioned, it does feel more plastic-y than the original. Still keeping it but a little disappointed.

> 3 dayThe original concept of the 3-button mouse was to use right click with the ring finger. Almost nobody did this so today few mice are designed for this hand position. The MX518 and its descendants are! This thing is a palm-position beast that works beautifully for both high and low res players - once you get used to it! If you grew up right clicking with your middle finger, expect a tough first week with the mx518, followed by a lifetime of satisfaction.

> 3 dayLogitechs MX5xx series mice have been, in my opinion, the best thing on the market for years. They updated it from the original with larger (and I assume longer-lasting) slippery pads on the bottom. As before, the left/right buttons are tactile and quiet, the two thumb buttons are placed perfectly to be accessible but not be pressed accidentally. The scroll wheel is, again, consistent and accurate, providing just enough tactile feedback and friction to end up exactly where you want it. Above and below the scroll wheel are sensitivity adjustment buttons, which - thank you, Logitech - are platform-independent. Works identically on my windows and Macbook without installing any drivers at all. Ive traveled with similar models from Logitech for years, have dropped them, had things fall on them, and they just keep working. For gaming or general desktop use, this is the most comfortable and predictable mouse I have found.
