I upgraded to this from an old (really old) MX500 that I have been using on and off for a good 15 years. Everything about this new one is so much better, except for two things: The teflon pads on the bottom are razor thin, and even just putting the weight of my hand on the mouse causes it to flex enough so that other parts of the mouse begin dragging on my mouse pad. The second is that they replaced the scroll one line buttons on either side of the wheel with DPI up/down buttons. I find the scroll buttons would be so much more useful.

I owned several of the original MX 518 gaming mice, the grey version that had simulated dents in it and the red version. This was by far the best gaming mouse Ive ever used and this version of it brings back memories. Now its new and improved with the HERO sensor and i love it!!

TL;DR: High quality mouse that feels just like the original. Good buy. When I found out that Logitech updated and rereleased the G5 (Yes, I know this is not a G5) I was quite excited. My previous mouse was on the fritz, so this seemed like a good time to try it out. So far Ive had this mouse for some months and its typical Logitech (and why I keep buying their products). The only minor gripe I have is that the mouse feels a little on the small side. Most normal people will not notice this but I have larger than average hands. Not the fault of the mouse really, but I felt it was worth pointing out. The sensor is crazy in this model, I havent gone anywhere near the maximum. I do not play FPS much anymore, so I cant comment on its accuracy there. Overall, I have barely any complaints. This is an excellent mouse if you just want a high quality mouse thats not button laden or looks like a gundam.

I am upgrading from a Logitech G5 mouse from 2006 (i think). The laser finally died. So i couldnt find a direct replacement for it ergonomically. Then i saw the MX518s shape and it was exactly the same shape and fit as the G5. As far as tracking is concerned, it is not laser, but a very high quality optical sensor. I guess optical has caught up with laser sensors. Didnt install any Logitech software. I get per-pixel tracking on my 4k tv and movement is very smooth. Only complaint is the material quality. For example, the clicks feel, light, like if i put some more than usually pressure something might break. The mouse wheel also feels somewhat cheap, the clicks are smooth but I can feel some cheap spring action. Finally, the cable is not braided like the G5 was, so the plastic sheathing can get chewed up easily. Again, its a great mouse for the money and for me particularly because of the shape that i love. so if youre thinking of getting this mouse for gaming and dont want to spend too much or dont get a mouse that looks like the batmobile and feels like it will break in your hands, this is a good choice.

Pros: -It fits in my hand perfectly. Ive used so many different mice over the years (Razer, Logitech, even the Intellimouse 2.0) and none of them ever fit my hand comfortably. I switch between claw and palm grips and this mouse accommodates both of my styles amazingly. -While the dented metal is indeed gone, the new plastic has glitter all under it which makes it look really nice compared to the old got hit by a baseball bat 500 times MX518. -Cord length is pretty long Cons: -The scroll wheel. Yeah, it has to said. Its not the worst one in the world and it works fine, but it just feels so awkward to scroll with this mouse half the time. Sometimes it works normally but other times it kinda feels like its scraping against something. (Edit: The scraping against something feel is gone. Wear overtime mustve fixed it) -The area where I rest my palm easily gets moist thanks to the new plastic shell, but its not really an annoyance to me. Id rather have the palm rest get moist over the thumbgrips (cough razer... cough)

Edit as of 2/18/2021: Double clicking has started occurring now Oh well it was goodish while it lasted. Ergonomics are fantastic, performance is predicable and great, gloss finish on the top is the doing of satan..... Im a clean freak of sorts, and when Im holding something glossy my hands sweat that sweat then dries on the glossy object making it not clean... the pictures above are after about a hour of use after cleaning it for me, if your not afraid to modify it and remove the gloss finish its 100% worth it. I am going to wait for my warranty to run out before i attempt to do so. Conclusion, other than the abysmal gloss finish (have no idea how companies think they are still a good idea) its a amazing mouse comfort wise and performance

its pretty much identical feeling to a G400s. Coming from that it feels the same. Within an hour I had forgotten I had a new mouse and I was just using it. I wish the anti-sweat coating from the G400s was still there, but if youre coming from an MX518 or G400, those didnt have it either. The soft touch coating feels the same as the one on the G400s, which started to come off after over 6 years of use. So I think the new MX518 might have that happen, but thats at least 6 years off if not more, and thats a long time. In conclusion, its nearly identical to the G400s I used before, and it is absolutely a worthy successor to this long line of mice. BUY IT!
