Logitech G MX518 Gaming Mouse

> 3 dayThe classic Logitech MX518 was the best mouse Ive ever owned. Everything about it always just felt right. Years ago I finally wore out the one Id had for nearly a decade and was sad I couldnt replace it. Thats no longer the case! This not be the same internals (its much more modern inside, duh) but the externals feel is EXACTLY the same. It just feels right in the hand. I could not be more pleased at having one in hand again. Best. Feeling. Mouse. Ever.

Greater than one weekI dont usually write reviews, but this was one I had to write. Sad that my mx518 that I bought in 05 when I was a kid started to die in 2016 or so I went to the G401 as it was the mx predecessor. And thats when I took a long break from gaming. When I came back I started to get used to the G401 and wanted to see how much my old mice was. When I looked it up, to my surprise I saw that they re-released my favorite mouse! And damn its exactly the same, but better sensors and better drivers. You can program every button (unlike before). Im almost tempted right now to buy another just in case something happens with the one I just bought... If youre looking for a comfy mouse for gaming, I would suggest this and not look back.

> 3 dayIve been a Logitech fan for years now since I first started PC gaming. I wont lie I havent really tried anything else outside of Logitech but I do own just about every main mice in their gaming lineup. The G403, G502, G Pro, G302 and G300s. I always wanted to try the MX518 for its shape but never had the chance until now. I have to say this is arguably the most comfortable mouse Iv ever used. The shape feels similar to the G502 but it gets rid of the non essentials on that mouse and is much lighter. I very much like the old school look and the gloss finish is gorgeous and feels good to grip. Iv played FPS games almost exclusively my entire life. Battlefield, Overwatch, CS:GO, Titanfall, and now I mostly focus on Quake Champions and Apex Legends. The sensor is perfect in every way, thats not really surprising though since it is Logitech after all. The ergonomics are more suitable for medium to large hands, its definitely a THICC mouse and 100 grams isnt exactly the ideal for FPS but I dont mind it at all since the shape makes up for that. I had no issues adjusting from the 89g G pro going to this. Honestly this is probably going to be my main mouse from now on till I find a better shape but that probably wont happen. PROS - Amazing shape for medium to large hands (palm grip) - Solid construction in good ol Logitech fashion - Gorgeous aesthetics and finish (I dont care for Lamborghini flares or RGB) - Best sensor on the market - No braided cable (I cant stand brained cable. Theyre stiff, catch on everything and fray) - Logitech customer support (they have been amazing in the past) CONS - 100g is not ideal would have like to seen it around 90g - New Logitech G Hub software is not good, I much preferred old software - Doesnt give me Shroud aim

> 3 dayYou have probably already read how great of a gaming mouse this is. Like others, I used it in the 2000s as my main gaming mouse. Its really a nice mouse. But, these days I work from home and keep having my mice loose tracking on me. I write code for a living, and I dont need much from a mouse. But, I need it to track correctly. Unfortunately, the standard logitech wireless ones I keep buying, keep loosing its tracking. Thing is, I still have my old 518 from 2007 ish. Guess what? It still works. No tracking issues and I put that thing to work on a nightly basis for years. But, the middle mouse doesnt scroll so I needed a new one. So to avoid having to buy another mouse too soon, I decided to get my old standard and pickup the 518. The new design works just fine, but be sure you are right handed. Does anyone use a mouse with their left hand? Not sure, but this mouse was designed to be used with your right hand. Its got the perfect indent for your thumb which is one of the great features. Its a perfect fit. It doesnt have the nice rubber anymore, but thats not a big deal. Its cheaper now so thats fine. Sensitivity buttons above and below the middle mouse button is nice as well. Just tap to change sensitivity as you need. Remember, this thing was made for performance. This is a wired mouse. There is no wireless functionality, so you have to plug it in. This could be good/bad depending on what you need it for. But, just keep in mind, you have to plug the usb into a port. It took a few mins for it to work, surprisingly, but after a few mins it worked fine. We will see if they still use quality parts in this mouse and it lasts a long time. But, Im feeling good about it so far. Sometimes if you work all day with a mouse, just buy a gaming mouse for quality. The standard cheap ones dont last.

> 3 dayI have owned 3 generations of the mx518 and Ive always went to the next generation because I wanted a upgrade not because the mouse broke down. From the time I wake to the time I go to sleep, I can game on this mouse without any kind of fatigue on my hands. The sensor is precise and the dpi upgrade is great, I dont have to pick up and move the mouse like 3 times just to get to the other side of the screen. Logitech please take my suggestion and make a separate version of this mouse with 3-4 extra buttons, I use this mouse mostly for MMOs and several extra buttons would make the mouse perfect.

> 3 dayIts overall pretty nice. Although for how much this thing costs it feels pretty flimsy. The buttons also just stick anything onto it and can get dirty easily, nothing like any mouse Ive ever used. It feels a bit awkward for my ring finger like it has nowhere to go but I ended up clawing the thing the whole time anyways. I always use the middle mouse button to open and close links/tabs and the button started to give away and make a crunched plastic sound but it did go away somehow which was cool... If this product costs maybe half what it is then Id definitely recommend and give 5 stars but it does have some flaws. It performs nicely though its just the flaws really stick to my mind.

> 3 dayDisclosure: I am not a gamer. I needed to replace the Logitech M500 mouse (RIP) Ive been using for nearly 20 years. I am retired and have some hobbies. I thought I could improve on my efforts by up-grading my mouse. This is the 3rd Logitech mouse in as many weeks (Thank you Amazon for making returns so easy). The MX518 is supposed to be the descendant of my M500. I had decided to give up on programmable buttons and wireless so this seemed to be the obvious choice. Wrong! One of the most useful features of the M500 was what is referred to as hyperscroll. Guess what was removed from the MX518?. Add to that, the optics have been changed and are not very reliable. Logitech software is questionable. Returned to Amazon.

> 3 dayThis mouse is not identical to the original MX518. Lets get that out of the way first. Its a little bit lighter in weight, and some people complain about the cord not being braided or something. Are these deal killers? Not for me. If your MX518 is wearing out and you want a modern replacement, go ahead, try a half-dozen other mice to see if they fit your hand. I did. And I came back to the G MX518 because I like the ergonomics so much. The upgraded sensor is just icing on the cake. I like the new paintjob, too. No problems in several months daily use for surfing and gaming. Recommended.

> 3 dayAnd better than ever. I am not going to write a long review other than it is a great mouse. Sensor is accurate and doesnt do weird interpolation, smoothing or acceleration like some others do. Skates hold up well, clicks are a little loud though. If you are use to the MX518, G400 series, etc then this mouse will feel fine. Good for the palm grip people and weird finger/palm grip I have. Just be sure to use it on a good mouse pad. These sensor is VERY good. It will pick up things and cause your cursor to jump. If you have a good one, keep it clean. I recommend it be used on a hard mouse pad and not a cloth one. Glides smoother.

Greater than one weekIve been using an MX518 since it came out, so 10+ years. It still works but Ive been starting to look for a replacement since the mouse cord is developing a short. Obviously this re-release was the logical option! However - there are some things that a definitely different, and IMHO opinion inferior, to the original. (1) The grip area uses a very hard plastics with a slight texture to it instead of other smooth but ever so slightly rubberized material. The grip security is noticeable worse now, and when I lift off the mouse to re-position on the mouse map, it regularly slips a fraction in my grip. Its a weird material that I havent seen on other mice. Not great. I ended up putting strips of electrical tape on the sides, which helped tremendously. (2) The scroll wheel is pretty poor quality. Other reviews mentioned the same thing. It has a gritty and mushy feel to the action which hasnt loosed or smoothed out in 2+ months of house. Also requires more pressure to move wheel. Not nearly as comfortable as the old one. (3) Different pads on the feet of the mouse with a much larger overall surface area. May or may not lead to a different experience, but it feels like it doesnt glide as nicely. (4) The cord is thinner and more delicate feeling. Might be just as strong, but who knows. (4) Last - at times - I feel like this mouse is lagging in game. I play a lot of FPS games and sometimes the input just feels off in a way that my old mouse (and others Ive used on occasion) never have. I dont know if this is a driver or software issue or what - but its been a pain to try and diagnose. Long story short, I love the classic re-released shape of this mouse, but enough of the details are changed that it just feels like a different mouse, and a lower quality one at that. I regret not returning it earlier and just making the jump to a different more modern designed mouse. Oh well.
