This mouse has a very good build quality, its around 100g which is great for me, but might seem heavy to others. The Hero sensor is by far the most precise ive ever had. No acceleration, no angle snapping perfect for gaming. Your either going to love the shape of this mouse and the ergonomics, or your going to hate it, no middle ground really. Its a great palm/fingertip/hybrid grip mouse, but most people are probably going to want to palm grip this mouse. Glides great across surfaces. One down side may be the right side finger rest is kinda in a bad spot, but i fingertip grip this mouse so its not that much of an issue. Hope this helps someone!

The original MX518 introduced this shape, which I consider the perfect mouse size and shape, at least for my (on the large side) hands. It was then reused in the G5, G500 and G500s, some of the best mice of all time. I had been reluctantly using a G502 Proteus Core for the last couple of years, because I couldnt find anything else to replace my G500 with when it died. I was never really happy with the G502 though, so when I heard they were bringing back the MX518, but with a modern sensor, I jumped on it. It was a day one order for me. Now that I have it I am very happy with it. I love the feel of the shape in my hand, and its subtle looks without all the crazy disco lighting they put on all products these days. Not everything is perfect though, which is why it doesnt get 5 stars. 1.) It is VERY light. If you like a light mouse (that is the gaming trend today) then I suppose that is great. I dont. Ive always liked heavy peripherals. The G5 and G500 allowed you to add weights with a cool weight cartridge on the bottom. This mouse lacks that feature. IN the end I wound up ordering 3 ounces (85g) of weighted tungsten, taking off the cover, and sticking it inside the mouse to almost double the weight. Its much more to my liking now. It would have been better if it had a cartridge like the G5 and G500 though. (and not like the one in the G502, it is much worse, and lighter) 2.) The scroll wheel is a definite downgrade compared to the G502. This is the only thing I miss from the G502. It feels cheap and less precise compared to the one on the G502. Give this mouse a weight cartridge like the G5/G500 and a better scroll wheel, and it might just be the perfect mouse. Or they could - you know - just bring back the G500 with modern optics as well.

Disclaimer: I never used the original MX518 made around a decade ago. So far, I’ve got to say that I really love this mouse. You may be asking, why did I choose this retro styled mouse over some of the other mice? 1. In my opinion, It’s a nice break from the sharp, sleek, and flashy geometric designs from modern gaming mice and other gaming equipment. The MX518 does what it needs to do without over complicating itself. 2. The old school soft and rounded aesthetic of the MX518 feels very comfortable in palm, fingertip, and claw gripping styles. 3. The cord isn’t braided. Sure, this can be looked as a negative in durability, but it’s nice to not deal with fraying and cord friction that can mess with mouse movement. 4. The unbraided cord is also very flexible and extremely light to the point where it feels borderline nonexistent. It doesn’t feel cheap despite this. 5. It’s slightly lighter than the Razor Deathadder and has excellent weight balance. 6. The MX518 has the same (HERO) sensor as Logitech’s $100+ flagship mice. 7. The mouse has programmable buttons for assigning macros, keybinds, on the fly DPI changing, and the ability to store and switch between multiple mouse profiles. The mouse profiles can be assigned to games for automatic, immediate swapping when the games are launched. With the MX518 praise out of the way, there are some things to consider before buying the mouse. 1. The MX518 was designed for right handed use only. 2. The mouse is fairly big, some users with smaller hands may find it uncomfortable. 3. If you have long fingers and like to palm grip, you may hate the left and right click buttons. They don’t fully extend over the edge of the mouse and your fingertips may hit the plastic form that wraps around it. 4. The features on this retro styled mouse may appear too basic without the flashy lighting, infinite scrolling, weight changing, grip swapping, and other features found in modern mice design. 5. The buttons below and above the mouse wheel may be tricky to reach depending on your grip style and finger length. The mouse wheel itself has a somewhat narrow and rubbery feel that may feel weird to some users. TLDR: I personally think the MX518 is one of the best mice I have used in comfort and performance, but the older design style and lack of modern gimmicks may not be everyone.

I have owned just about every mouse over the years for gaming. (Last used was the Razer Deathadder). I have also owned the original version of this mouse many years ago and it lasted me about 6 years. I can say with absolute certainty that this is the best mouse on the market at the moment. It is built just like the original, and feels exactly the same as I remember just with upgraded internals. What makes this mouse the best? The simplistic design with no frills.. Works as intended every time and is comfortable for extended use. Cant ask for more... Thank You Logitech for bringing back the best!

This mouse has been a curse/blessing. The curse being its hard to find a mouse I can comfortable grip like this one. Blessing because its just so comfortable and my aiming performance is best with this shape. This was my first mouse back when I was 11 years old playing Delta force land warrior up until Call of Duty 1. Once it broke I tried several other mice with the razer naga being the only one that really supported my grip. I was overjoyed to see Logitech re-released this mouse, and boy does it deserve its legendary title. The only negative is that is does creek a little if I put enough pressure on it. Otherwise performance is exactly what youd expect from a hero sensor, no spins outs whatsoever. Gaming mice really have come such a long way.

The new G app is great for re mapping the buttons. Love that. -This is not the same mouse. Its missing the red button indicators. -The mouse is no longer textured in that amazing rubber coating. Its an all plastic design -The wire is much thinner. -The plastic for the shell of the mouse is also thinner and weighs less. -The mouse when connected does not light up. The bottom of the mouse is not that smokey transparent plastic anymore its solid black. You need to really look hard to find the red light. -Its slightly smaller maybe by a few mm or cm but It seems diff. Maybe its not having that grip like before. Good stuff. -It works but you need to download the G app to have the buttons mapped correctly. -You have now full control of your DPi cycles. So you can have 69 - 420 - 1337 - 9999 w/e...You can put 5 and cycle through them with the button. -The finish isnt bad its just not the rubber coating I was looking forward to. Worth it if you want a nice clean mouse without all the flashy design features. Like 50 buttons and super curved buttons with pointy edges. My old one has lasted more than 15 years & I still have it. The rubber is peeling a bit. I am a logitech fan boy because of this mouse and the ELITE keyboards back in the day. Indestructible products I feel this one was a bit of marketing genius but I am happy with the end result.

I have used the original mx518 since it was first released.. up until 2018 when for some reason I convinced myself I needed a new gaming mouse. I ended up buying a Corsair Glaive which looked cool and had all the gamer features including RGB. well less than 2 years later that mouse started to have a double click issue... and I also noticed the scroll wheel was loosing its accuracy at slow scrolling speeds. A few months after that one the the thumb buttons flat out broke. I dug through the closet and pulled out my trusty ol mx518 which still worked flawlessly and began to use it as a backup. after the first day back with the mx518 I started to ask myself why I ever tried to replace it in the first place. it was more comfortable and the buttons felt better. I then discovered Logitech had re-released the mx518 with newer tech and I was immediately on board. 2 days later it arrived and it was exactly what I expected! spot on original shape and feel with the matte plastic being slightly more grippy then the original. The buttons feel a tad more crisp (which may have to do with my original being so old) and the hero sensor needs no introduction. This mouse is a sleeper.. a wolf in sheeps clothes and I love it.

I received this mouse on Oct. 31, 2020. I bought it primarily for gaming, for the 8 programmable buttons, but I am disappointed. First, I found the design to be ungainly, the mouse feels too big in my hand and I cant reach all of the buttons without continually shifting the position of my hand. After trying it on a couple of games, I went back to a standard keyboard and mouse setup. I now use the LMB, RMB, and mouse wheel only, the same as I would with a 3 button mouse. The other problem is that the LMB intermittently malfunctions. There should be tactile and audible feedback when the mouse button is clicked. But sometimes I get the click (feel and sound) before the button is fully depressed causing me to misclick. Overall, since Amazon is allowing returns until January 31, I think I will return it and not ask for a replacement.

Throwback to 2005! I am so happy I found this mouse. I used the original MX518 from 2005 to at least 2016 and then I lost it in a move, or maybe I still have it buried in a box...but I can guarantee if I found it, its STILL WORKING! It somehow managed to escape my terrible cat who is a notorious cord chewer. This new MX518 is comfortable, crisp, responsive (as my husband said jealously when he looked at the box of my new mouse This one is better than the one I have and he bought one that is at least $250 because it charges wirelessly on its pad.) Well, guess what, my mouse will never run out of batteries mid-raid when the tank has just pulled a boss! My only tiny tiny problem, and this is my own problem, because I own a terrible cat, is that the USB cord is so thin and light and attractive to my cat who could literally sever it in one chomp of her fiendish teeth. Yes, I know people hate it, but I wish Logitech had gone braided cable with this one. Currently, I unplug and put the mouse in a safe place so she cant get it, but I know Ill lapse one day and shell chomp it. Come to think of it, I should probably search amazon for some cord protectors... gotta go!
