> 3 dayMy second purchase of this type of drive. 2.5in 500GB SSD. It’s reliable and fast! Easy to install. And I highly recommend installing the Samsung software on your machine to optimize the drive’s life. And update firmware if ever it’s needed.

> 3 dayPurchased the drive for an old Toshiba netbook Ive had for 8 years. The original HD had started to show its age. Purchased the Samsung 860 EVO SSD instead of a standard HD to conserve the battery and to improve performance. Seems to have fulfilled both requirements. Installed easily and the loading of the OS (Mint Linux) was very quick.

> 3 dayHave been using these SSDs to clone all the hard drives on my radio station PCs. The speed improvement is significant and the reliability of the SSD is improved dramatically. Using Macrium free clone program and the SATA USB adapter available on Amazon, the clone is fairly simple. When done cloning, unplug existing HD and connect this SSD. Works great. The only negative is these drives are smaller that some spinning drives in PC and may not work if existing drive is filled to over about 230 GB.

21-11-2024This is my 3rd Samsung SSD. My 840 Pro from 5 years ago still works like new. My 950 Evo still blows me away. This 860 Evo is even faster than the 840 and I love it. I’m sure my 4th, 5th, 6th etc will also be Samsung.

> 3 dayIhave used the drive externally because I accidentally killed my laptop. I will probably get a cage for it and replace my desktop HDD with it.

> 3 dayThats something to point out here: V-nand is a generic/general term and Samsung use MLC V-NAND. TLC is a lower cost NAND but its also V-NAND...anything vertical or 3D is V. Im not here to educate fully, but theres a difference in quality and this is the better MLC V-NAND. Just moving to an SSD is a huge plus so pick any of them now that fit your budget. To me, even in a used and low cost used laptop, I find the price delta of MLC vs TLC worth getting the Samsung.

> 3 dayDecided to upgrade my mechanical HDD in my laptop to an SSD after upgrading my home PC with a similar but larger SSD. Using Samsungs migration tool plus a StarTech 3.0 to SSD cable made cloning my old HDD OS to the SSD breeze. Faster load times and faster file transfers are definitely noticed once installed. Startup time with my mechanical HDD was 52 seconds and after installing the Samsung 860 EVO 500gb SSD, I now have a 28 second load time. That is considerably faster especially being able to be on a webpage at about the 30-second mark after startup which when I had the mechanical HDD I was only able to be on a webpage on a fresh startup until about 1mn and 20ish seconds. If you are looking to upgrade a laptop I recommend Samsungs SSDs as they are reliable and their migration software is super easy to use and much faster than using something like clonezilla.
