Holy crap this thing is huge. Definitely not something for a bicycle ride... Maybe a motorcycle or leaving at home to lock overnight. I bet you could lock your whatever in the worst neighborhood in Russia and they wouldnt touch this chain. The week link would be the lock or whatever your locking it to. I have returned it due to its weight and size. I have no use for this as its just too much security and not light enough to bike with.

This is a review for the Schlage 999461 chain with cinch ring. This is a very nice heavy duty chain that can be used to secure bikes to a car bike rack. The internal chain link opening is 19.8mm (0.779 inches). The heavy duty chain arrived with a nice nylon sleeve on about half the chain, leaving 6 links exposed. To protect my bikes, I stretched a part of a Mountain Bike inner tube 26 x 2.1-2.5 over the exposed links, adding a zip tie on the end to prevent it from slipping. At the last link, I cut a hole in the inner tube to allow my Onguard Brute U-lock to pass through. Now, I can securely lock my bikes to my car bike rack in a higher crime area.

This security chain is massive and heavy. I bought this to secure items at our RV when we are away from camp. Nothing is theft proof, but this chain will require them to spend a lot of time and make a lot of noise. And noise will wake up my two guard dogs, Smith and Wesson. Their bark is almost as bad as their bite!!! The chain is triple heat treated, 1/2 inch hexagonal sided links, and is made with manganese steel. The hexagonal links thwart bolt cutters as well as the extra strength from heat treating. And manganese steel is resistant to abrasive cutoff wheels. It can be cut, but time and speed are a thieves enemy (along with my two dogs, Smith and Wesson).

I’m returning this product because I underestimated how heavy duty this would be!! I remember reading the specs and thinking it didn’t sound THAT heavy, but this thing is massive. My (admittedly old) mother had a hard time picking it up. Would be good for a motorcycle, or maybe leave it where you lock up, but I was looking for something I could wrap around my seat tube and quickly chain up to a pole while I’m out running errands. Riding a bike with this thing IS an errand in itself. Seems extremely well built. I live in Los Angeles and have had three bikes stolen. This chain would definitely NOT be the weakest link, I’m sure any wannabe thieves would try sawing the pole it’s locked to or drilling the lock before they even attempt any funny business with this chain. It’s almost as thick as my wrist. I’ll be getting something much much lighter (in addition to my 2 other u-locks).

This is a very high quality product. The links are totally impervious to a hacksaw and file, and 15 seconds of angle grinding only made the most minor of abrasions. I bought this for chaining a small safe to my steel bed frame to make it harder to walk off. Sawing apart the steel bed frame will definitely now be the easiest way to walk away with my safe. The cinch ring is a great feature. The chain is honestly way overkill for my task but I couldnt find a smaller chain with the cinch ring, which I wanted. Cyclists: Get a smaller chain... this is way too hefty for your purposes. Would be good for motorcycles in very high-risk areas.

I bought this to lock up my and my wifes e-bikes when they are attached to our bike carrier. Its long enough for my situation and it certainly looks beefy; I hope Ill never find out if it stands up to a bolt cutter attack. I also got this lock, because of its molybdenum shackle: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001V5IYWE/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. It BARELY fits with the chain, which is actually good since that leaves minimal room for a bolt cutter to attack. (It fits pretty easily through the loop, and just barely through two links.)

The 39-inch version is 7lbs, not 5lbs as claimed. I am not a welder but the welds look okay to me.

This chain, along with a suitable lock, may very well draw the attention of a thief. Whatever one might secure with this beast must be of value and importance. Hopefully however, the bad guy will look at his bolt cutter, grinder, bottle jack or pry bar and realize he needs something bigger... and move along towards easier prey.-

Chello, I have recently purchased this 5 chain for security of my motorcycle. Im not exactly in a high risk area like I was in L.A. but I dont trust people when it comes to my personal property. I tested the hardness of this chain myself as you can see in the photo. It was difficult to get a perfect reading due to the coating on the steel. However, after several attempts, I think my test is in the ballpark. I called Schlage and after several minutes of waiting for the rep to investigate what I was asking, (What is the HRC) she said she finally found someone who knew. According to her it is HRC 62. I said thats very high, and she said thats what she was told, turns out she was correct! So this is a bad a** chain for the money, the only ones harder are Pewag and Laclede. Im getting the smaller one as well.

Just as advertised. Its a nice heavy chain. My shed is in the back of the yard, I use it to chain my snowblower up on my back deck so I dont have to drag it through the (snow-covered) yard every time I need to clean off the driveway. The cover is nice as well. It will help keep the chain from damaging what you are trying to protect.
