It is impossible for a criminal to break this chain unless they were Superman mixed with Thanos. They would break the lock before this chain. And its uber heavy. Like heavier than any baby.

Ive had cables cut and bikes and other equipment stolen with simple bolt cutters. Not with one of these! This is a serious chain that would probably take an acetylene torch to cut so dont loose your key. I especially like the way that this has a loop (or noose) on one end which allows you to use the full length of the chain. One down side is that its very heavy so take that into consideration. Get a long one and a short one. A single long Schlage can easily lock several bicycles or motorcycles, while a shorter Schlage is easier and lighter to transport.

I read a few reviews that mentioned how massive and heavy this chain is. Take note! It IS massive and heavy. I will be using this on my bike rack for security as it is way too big to carry on my bike. It can be defeated as all chains can with a portable angle grinder but this is as good as you can get. It will surely deter most casual thieves.

Very solid (and heavy) chain. Will be very difficult to cut. We combined is with the Kryptonite Evolution Series 4 Bicycle Disc Bike Lock. Great combination!

I bought this to lock up my and my wifes e-bikes when they are attached to our bike carrier. Its long enough for my situation and it certainly looks beefy; I hope Ill never find out if it stands up to a bolt cutter attack. I also got this lock, because of its molybdenum shackle: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001V5IYWE/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. It BARELY fits with the chain, which is actually good since that leaves minimal room for a bolt cutter to attack. (It fits pretty easily through the loop, and just barely through two links.)

At 6 pounds 12.3 ounces measured on my kitchen scale which is accurate to 1/10 of an ounce its a hefty chain. The links are 6 sided which is suppose to require a greater amount of pressure to break the chain with a bolt cutter because the pressure of the bolt cutter blades are spread over a broader area unlike round links. Each link is 12mm side to side measured with my micrometer which is accurate to 0.001 inches which I then converted to mm. The measurement in inches was 0.474 inches so its not quite 1/2 inch although its advertised as 1/2 inch. The chain does measure 39.5 inches in length including the cinch ring. My criteria in purchasing a chain was to have something that would most likely deter anyone wanting to steal my bicycle. The name of the game is deterrence. No lock or chain is full proof. Most thieves just want to get in and out quickly. They want the easy job, not the job that requires a lot of effort unless the pay off is also great. I decided that the minimum diameter of each link would be 12 mm after watching many Youtube videos and researching the cost of chains that are larger in diameter but of course would also weigh more. Twelve millimeter thickness seems to be the minimum thickness that requires the largest bolt cutter and is still nearly impossible to break. Its amazing how much more the chains weigh with just a small increase in diameter. I have not tried to cut this chain with a hack saw nor have I tried to break it with a bolt cutter. I did find a video by a chain manufacturer trying to break their own chains with a very large bolt cutter leveraged against the ground using his full body weight. He couldnt break the chain. Given enough time Im sure you can cut through this with a hack saw but again the thieves want to be out of there quickly. You can find a cordless angle grinder being used to cut through a 12mm chain in less than 2 minutes because it takes 2 cuts to release the chain. No chain will stop an angle cutter. You cant stop everyone. You can only deter the majority. If someone wants what you have bad enough they will have the determination to find a way to steal it. Deterrence is the name of the game. I also purchased a Kryptonite Evolution series 4 U-Lock to lock the chain and will post a review of it. Its not about the destination, its about the journey.

A substantial chain with just about the right length for reasonable situations. BIG DOWNSIDE: the sheath is not long enough and will scrape the crap out of your bike. My bike is for transportation and it is brand new so I dont really care, but you might want to look into getting some sort of supplemental sheath. The cinch link is great- let you maximize the length and simplifies locking. I think this is a great lock to go with it... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00004Y8CA/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_34

After researching bicycle locks, chain reviews and bike theft videos, being on my 4th bike, living in NYC. Im happy to own this chain now. Its not too heavy, its what is needed to prevent it from being able to get clipped. Plus I got some exercise being able to do some bicep curls after unwrapping it. Along with the chain I got the Kryptonite Evolution Series 4 Bicycle Disc Bike Lock and feel my bicycles safe. Of course its important also where exactly and how to lock the bike. Theres still the seat and front wheel to consider. Perhaps another U-lock for the front-wheel.

The 39-inch version is 7lbs, not 5lbs as claimed. I am not a welder but the welds look okay to me.
